We’re celebrating the dedication, compassion, and resilience of social workers worldwide.
Meet Kerry Slattery, LSW – Social Worker at On Belay Health Solutions
Kerry’s passion for helping others ignited a career path deeply rooted in compassion and advocacy.
Her journey began with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, driven by an urge to understand and support individuals facing challenges. Starting her career at a nursing home, Kerry immersed herself in the world of traumatic brain injury patients, developing deep connections and honing her ability to empathize with their struggles. Over the years, she transitioned to roles in assisted living and foster care programs, helping her recognize that her true passion was aiding adults and elders. Recognizing the need for holistic care, Kerry was determined that she wanted to work in a physician’s office where she could provide hands-on support to those with limited resource access.
Kerry says “the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others” is the most rewarding part of her job. The ability to offer support, guidance, and tangible solutions in times of need is deeply fulfilling. Particularly amidst the isolating challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Kerry found comfort in her role as a beacon of hope, connecting people with vital resources and guiding them through uncharted obstacles.
Of course, like any role, there are daily hurdles. The scarcity of resources, ranging from mental health to financial support, presents the most challenges. Being able to adequately guide patients, while still respecting their ability to decline a resource, can be a struggle and requires a necessary balance of empowerment and support.
At On Belay, Kerry builds on community connections and collaborates closely with a dedicated team of care managers, ensuring that patients receive comprehensive support tailored to their unique needs. Beyond addressing medical concerns, she offers emotional and practical assistance, nurturing trust and comfort among patients and their families.
On World Social Work Day, during National Social Worker Month, we want to bring awareness to individuals like Kerry, who prioritize patients well-being, and are dedicated to creating a better and brighter future.
